We as humans are competitive by nature, but after reading some of the titles people actually compete for you’ll see just how ridiculous people can be.

#13. Areca Tree Climbing

This competition takes place in Bondowoso, Indonesia on Independence Day. The trees are greased up and participants must scale it in order to reach the prizes at the top!

#12. Shovel Racing

This competition came to fruition after ski lift operators begin using shovels to get down the mountain faster. It was even added to the X Games but discontinued after safety became an issue. It’s done on both regular and modified shovels, some of which can even reach speeds of over 60 mph.

Story Bridge Hotel hosts this main even yearly on Australia Day. It is B.Y.O.C. (Bring your own cockroach), and in order to win your cockroach must reach the edge of the tarp before the others.

Referred to as The “Olympics of nails”, this contest has been going on for over 10 years. The categories range from normal to extreme. It’s quite a sight to see.

This competition has taken place in both The U.S. and Europe since the early 90’s. Categories range from the most bizarre beards to the most natural.

#8. The World Toe Wrestling Championship

This championship is held at Bentley Brook Inn annually in England. It all begin with 4 guys drinking at a local pub and somehow it has caught on and has been going since 1974.

If Air Guitar could make it as a competition, why can’t the Air Sex World Championships? Every since 2009, this contest has toured the US where they seek to crown regional champions that go on to compete for the ultimate victory.

#6. Baby Crying Contest

This is a 400 year old contest held in Tokyo every spring. Student sumo wrestlers are given a baby that they must make cry. It is believed that this tradition brings good health to the baby.

Participants must chase a 9lb wheel of cheese down a steep hill and be the first person to cross the finish line that resides at the bottom. The winner gets the cheese! This competition results in tons of injuries and in 2005 it had to be postponed so that enough ambulances could return back from rushing earlier competitors to the hospital.

Held in England since 1980, Worm charmers are given a pot of soil and must get the most worms before time runs out. A 10 year old girl holds the record with 567 total worms being charmed from the soil.

This competition is referred to as bee-wearing or bee-bearing and is held annually in China. In order to win, you must hold the most weights of bees on your body. Shockingly, the current World Record is 87 lbs, which is about 350,000 bees.
